Before you can cure a smelly vagina you need to know what's
causing it! Most often a foul 'fishy' smelling vagina is the result of a
condition/disease called bacterial vaginosis (BV). Although it is not
communicable in the traditional sense of sexually transmitted diseases,
there is some recent evidence that a sexually active male may in fact
transmit it from one female to the next. There is no evidence that
suggests a male will contract the disease, he simply remains a carrier
in some cases.
Once it has been ascertained that BV is the root cause of the foul odor, there are some natural steps which can be taken to cure the smell and many of those cures you probably already have sitting on your kitchen shelf! The first treatment that is known to be effective is apple cider vinegar because the ultimate cause of BV is an imbalance in the pH environment of the vagina. Good bacteria need acidity to thrive while bad (disease causing) bacteria need alkalinity. Apple cider vinegar in the bath water helps as does a home solution of apple cider vinegar and warm water in a douche.
While it is not recommended that ladies with BV douche, that is because of the commercial products that contain fragrances and deodorants that can exacerbate the condition by reducing acidity even further. Yogurt inserted into the vagina also helps to replenish the good bacteria population as does (as yucky as it sounds!) a clove of garlic. In the end, what you are trying to do to cure a smelly vagina is to establish it's normal acidic environment where friendly bacteria will thrive and kill off the harmful disease causing microorganisms.
